Take a look here for some pictures from the kitesurfing mecca of the North West...  Fleetwood! Well it has to have something going for it doesn't it?  No you're right maybe not, but the pictures prove it can be done, and done with style. Click here for some pictures of the impressive kites at Washington this year. Shame the weather didn't hold out for Sunday. Here are some pictures from Bristol '99 too!

First Time Flyers Guide

I only started flying kites a few months before I created this guide and found that there wasn't much information for the absolute beginner to enable them to buy a decent first sport kite & get started. There are not many retailers about that specialise in kites and so information is hard to find. The information on this page is basic... very basic! That's what I needed when I started so I hope it helps.

So what did I start with?... I was lucky in that I had advice from an experienced flyer and lived within reach of a good shop. My first kite was a Dharma made by airdynamics (though now only made to order), & purchased from Kites Aloft. This was an excellent kite to start with (apart from being on the pricey side for a first buy). It's a large kite, stable and predictable in flight, not too fast, strong framed & has a wide wind range. For higher winds I later bought a Hot Pepper Beach & for almost windless (& in theory no wind) days a Babytana both made by HQ & supplied by the Highwaymen.
For my first 4 liner I bought a Revolution EXP. Since then I have continued to increase the collection (& now my wife says I have too many), even starting to build my own designs, but the beauty of kites is that they all have their own character, are good at certain things & all fly differently & in differing wind conditions!
